Introduction

We passionately champion the cause of aligning exceptional talent with organizations that crave success. In this heartfelt case study, we reveal our inspiring journey alongside a prominent construction industry client, as we navigated the challenges of discovering and seamlessly integrating an indispensable Product Manager into their operations during a time of profound urgency.

Job-Requisition

Our clients were looking for a Product Manager with a background in real estate and construction business. With a minimum of 5 years of experience in managing and successfully delivering projects, the ideal candidate would bring diversity to their expertise.
Problem Statement
The client is a construction industry company that needed a Product Manager who could take ownership of their product and had a technical background with coding experience. The ideal candidate was expected to manage the product management cycle, including product analysis, business management, and idea implementation while being able to communicate and interact with international clients.

Additionally, the candidate needed to be a multi-faceted person who could add and challenge ideas from the engineering team and had minimal handholding to drive the product entirely. They also needed to have the ability to handle two or three projects simultaneously to ensure that the product development process remained efficient.

The client’s tech stack was MERN Stack, and they needed a Product Manager who was proficient in these technologies. The candidate would be expected to have a thorough understanding of MERN Stack and its underlying technologies to lead the product development process efficiently.

Impact of the Hire

The newly hired Product Manager had an immediate impact on the client’s product development and management process. They were able to take ownership of the product in its entirety, leading to an increase in productivity and efficiency. The Product Manager’s technical background with coding experience enabled them to understand the product’s intricacies, allowing for effective product analysis and idea implementation.

The Product Manager was also an excellent communicator, interacting with international clients and leading to the successful delivery of projects. Their ability to add and challenge ideas from the engineering team led to a more collaborative and effective product development process. The Product Manager was also highly-agency, taking the initiative to solve problems and drive the product’s success.

Overall, the newly hired Product Manager brought a wealth of expertise and experience to the client’s team, leading to a more efficient and effective product development process. They provided effective leadership, taking ownership of the product, and driving it to success, all while handling multiple projects simultaneously.

Our Suggestion

We suggested broadening the search criteria to target Product Managers with a technical background, preferably with coding experience, who could take ownership of the product and manage the product management cycle, including product analysis, business management, and idea implementation.

Our suggestion was also to look for candidates who could communicate and interact effectively with international clients and add and challenge ideas from the engineering team while having minimal handholding to drive the product entirely. Additionally, we suggested targeting candidates who could handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Our Hiring Process

Our hiring process involved the following steps:

  • Initial screening to assess the candidate’s skills and experience.
  • Culture Index survey to map out congruency between the expectations of the company team and prospective candidates.
  • Two rounds of technical interviews to evaluate the candidate’s technical skills in software development and product management.
  • Cultural fit interview to assess the candidate’s fit with the client’s company culture.
  • SWOT analysis to evaluate the candidate’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
  • Reference checks to verify the candidate’s experience and skills.
  • We sent interview recordings to the hiring managers of our clients.

Technical Interviews / Panel

The technical interview involved a panel of experts who evaluated the candidate’s technical skills in project management. The candidate was interviewed by a Chief Product Officer (Engineering Leader) to ensure the candidate is meeting culture, project, company, and leadership fitments.

It consisted of project managers from the client’s development team as well as product owners and managers from FirstPrinciples Talent. The interview covered a range of topics, including project planning, risk management, stakeholder management, and team management.

Report Summary

FirstPrinciples Talent was able to identify and onboard a highly skilled and experienced Product Manager for a construction industry client through our comprehensive hiring process.
